Soccer Update: 25 March 2018

Hard luck to the Manor House Soccer team who lost to St Louis Dundalk in the quarter finals of the Leinster League. Well done to all our players this season for all their efforts on the pitch!

International Football Call-ups: 27 April 2017

Well done to our Transition Year students Rachael Kelly and Oleta Griffin who have been called up to represent the Ireland under-17 and under-16 football squads respectively. Rachael will represent her country at the UEFA European Championships from 02 to 14 May 2017 in the Czech Republic. Oleta has been recently called up to the National under-16 squad and will compete at a tournament in the Netherlands over the weekend of the 28-30 April 2017. Congratulations to both girls and best of luck from all at Manor House! #COYGIG #IRLWNT

Soccer Match: 18 January 2017

Congratulations to the Manor House senior soccer team on qualifying for the knock out stages of the Leinster League. This was secured following a hard earned win against Mount Carmel on Wednesday 18 January. The team was short of many regular players, but still managed to grind out a win.

Mount Carmel started strongest and took the lead after 15 minutes of the first half. However the Manor House girls soon responded as Orlaith Walsh tested the Mount Carmel keeper with a shot from distance. Oleta Griffin's long kick outs were causing the Mount Carmel defence problems and from one of these, Stephanie Whelan raced through and fired an equalizer into the corner of the net.

The second half was an extremely tight affair as both sides went close. Jadine McDonnell and Rahil Kassouri were kept busy in defence. Katie Grehan then shot wide from a corner kick, while both Karima Mazarrasa and Siofra Kelly tested the Mount Carmel keeper soon after. With ten minutes to go Orlaith Walsh went on a great run, beating four players, but narrowly missed the target. Just when it seemed like a draw would be the final result, Orlaith Walsh found herself with time in the penalty area and coolly slotted home the winning goal!

The final score was MANOR HOUSE 2, MOUNT CARMEL 1

Congratulations and well done girls,

Soccer Report: Leinster Senior Girls' League (December 2016)

Our soccer team have played two matches in the last few weeks, as part of the Leinster Senior Girls' League.

First up was a match against St Mary's Glasnevin. This game was played in St Anne's in perfect conditions. Manor House started on the front foot and soon tested the St Marys keeper with a shot from Megan Colman. After 15 minutes the Manor girls took the lead after Megan Colman headed a rebound from a fiercely struck Ciara McDunphy effort. St Mary's responded positively however and Amy Murphy made a great save to deny an equaliser. Just before half time though, the match was level after a deflected shot eventually beat Amy in goals. With the match at 1-1, the second half saw both sides go for the winner. Amazingly, the Manor girls hit the woodwork three times, as Oleta Griffin, Rachael Kelly and Megan Colman were all cruelly denied. The match finished 1-1, well done to both teams!

A week later the Manor girls travelled to Mercy Coolock for a local derby! Mercy fielded a young team, who certainly have a great opportunity to do well in the future. After Mercy took the lead, Rachael Kelly equalised after a mazy run through the opposition defence. Oleta Griffin then put Manor House ahead, converting from a corner. Just before half time, Rachael added a second goal. In the second half Rachael added her third and fourth goals. In the end the Manor girls won 5-1. Another strong performance from Manor House, with Chantel Walsh, Prisca Duplo, Shiela Roche and Rahil Kassouri all putting in great performances.

The girls will play two more matches in January to complete the group stage. Thanks to the coaches, Ms Cassidy and Mr Montgomery, for helping them to do so well.

Rachael Kelly, TY (Under 17 Women's Irish Football Team)

Congratulations to Rachael Kelly (Transition Year) on her recent selection to the Republic of Ireland Women's under 17s Football Team. The Irish squad played three qualifying matches for the next stage of the UEFA European Championship during the Halloween Mid Term break. Rachael, who is 15 and eligible for the same squad next year, played in goal during Ireland's victory over Iceland (Ireland 4 - Iceland 1). The team has now qualified for the Elite round of the European Championship and Rachael and her teammates will travel to Eastern Europe to play against hosts Serbia as well as Scotland and Hungary in March 2017. Manor House congratulates Rachael!

MANOR HOUSE PUTS IN A BRAVE PERFORMANCE IN DEFEAT
Football Association of Ireland Schools Under-15 Leinster Semi-Final

SAINT LAURENCE'S, LOUGHLINSTOWN 4        MANOR HOUSE 2

After an unprecedented run in this year’s competition, the Manor House U-15 team finally bowed out against a very well drilled Saint Laurence’s side. The home side (St Laurence's) took the lead after 15 minutes with a cross-come-shot that cruelly deceived Amy Dooley in the Manor House goal. However, this spurred on the Manor House girls, who fought back with two well-worked goals. After some great play from Sarah Challoner, Carla Fitzsimons played a wonderful ball through to Megan Colman who slotted past the St Laurence goalkeeper. Five minutes later, Orlaith Walsh went on an amazing run down the left side and fired past the keeper to make it 2-1 Manor House. However Saint Laurence hit back with another long range  shot to level the scores at half time. The second half was a cagey affair, as Jade Grant and captain Rachael Kelly worked hard to control the midfield. Carla and Megan both came close to giving Manor House the lead in the second half, only for the Saint Laurence keeper to stop their efforts. Amy Dooley then made a great save to keep the scores level. Alas, late in the game, Saint Laurence snatched two goals to seal the win and advance to the final. A fantastic performance from the girls, with Oleta Griffin, Prisca Duplo and Jadine McDonnell standing out in defence.

Ms Cassidy and Mr Montgomery would like to congratulate the team for their performances this season. Well done girls!

(Many thanks to the TY photographers – Katie Brady, Amy Murphy and Hannah Lyons.)

MIXED EMOTIONS FOR MANOR HOUSE SOCCER TEAMS

Following the completion of the regional competitions, both teams qualified in top position from their respective groups and advanced to the knockout stages.

Preliminary Round (Last 16 of Leinster)

The u-19s travelled to Eureka Kells in March and turned in an outstanding performance to snatch a 2-1 win, courtesy of goals from Carla Fitzsimmons and Oleta Griffin. A great display from the girls, especially from the hardworking duo of Amy Murphy and Emma Lawlor.
Meanwhile the u-15s won through against Lusk Community College. In a very competitive match, the Manor House girls eventually won through 2-1, following goals from Oleta Griffin and Emma Lane Farre.
This meant that both teams had qualified for the Provincial Quarter Finals…

U-19 Leinster Quarter Final

MANOR HOUSE 1        ST. RAPHAELA'S, STILLORGAN 2
In a match played in St Anne’s Park, St Raphaela’s got off to an excellent start with two goals, either side of half time. The Manor House girls fought back bravely in the second half, their hard work epitomised by Amy Fuller in midfield. Their efforts were finally rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot from Carla Fitzsimmons. This set up a frantic finale, as Amy Murphy and Carla Fitzsimmons both went close to grabbing an equalizer. However it was not to be and congratulations must go to St Raphaela’s for a well-deserved win. A true team effort from Manor House with Aoife Howley putting in a typical captain’s performance.

U-15 Leinster Quarter Final

MANOR HOUSE 6        DUNSHAUGHLIN CC 2
After a cagey opening between both teams, Dunshaughlin ought to have taken the lead in the opening minutes. Manor House survived this scare and took the lead after Rachael Kelly passed through for Carla Fitzsimmons to open Manor House’s account. In a very fast-paced match it was Megan Colman who broke the offside trap to put Manor House two up after 25 minutes. Megan got another goal just before half time, scoring a header from a corner. Although Dunshaughlin got a well-deserved goal just before the half time whistle, it wasn’t long before Megan Colman scored again to complete her hat-trick, early in the second half. This made the score 4-1. Dunshaughlin did not give up though and pulled a goal back, only for Rachael Kelly to settle Manor House nerves with a stunning long range effort to make it 5-2. Orlaith Walsh got the final goal that her efforts deserved with a spectacular late strike in off the crossbar. A great team performance from all the girls, with a special mention to Jade Grant and Oleta Griffin who worked their socks off! A Leinster semi-final awaits the u-15s now, details to be confirmed…

  • Over the past two months the Senior Team progressed from the regional Dublin group, as group winners.
  • In March, they defeated St Mary's Glasnevin in the last 16 of the Leinster tournament. There were some fantastic moments from some of our younger players, such as Isabel Browne, Serena Foley, Keva Deegan, Sinead Dollard and Lily Nolan.
  • In the Quarter Final against St Mary's Naas, the Manor girls came up against a very well drilled opponent. After a tight first half, St Mary's came out winners in the match, with Oleta Griffin scoring the Manor House goal.
  • We would like to say a big thank you to all the students who played for the team this year and we look forward to seeing them again next year!
  • We would also like to wish our captain Rachael Kelly (6th Year) the very best of luck in the coming weeks. Rachael has been called up to represent Ireland in the Elite round of the UEFA u19 European Championships in Spain.
