The Manor House Young Social Innovators were delighted to have Paralympic medallist, Ellen Keane, visit on Friday, 5 February.

Ellen was Ireland’s youngest athlete when she swam in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. At just 13 years old, she competed impressively, placing sixth in the 100m breaststroke. At the 2012 Paralympics she made three finals and her best finish 5th in the 100m Butterfly. In 2013 she won her first major international medals when she claimed two bronze medals at the IPC (Paralympic) World Championships in Montreal. Her leading events are the 100m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley.

She completed her Leaving Cert last Summer and a couple of weeks later went on to take three 4th places and swim two lifetime bests at the European Championships in Eindhoven. The Dubliner is studying culinary entrepreneurship in DIT. She swims in no less than six events in Glasgow with her leading discipline the 100m Breaststroke (SB8) where she is hoping to challenge for a place on the podium..
